Drawing production for MEP engineers

The power of working with Revit is not only modeling elements in their full 3D splendor but also making the views of the model elements understandable and useful while you are designing and when you pass the information on to others. In this module you will learn how to setup views just the way you want them by working with filters in views, creating new system types and setting the colors, modifying the view overrides in linked files, setting up view templates, and creating a custom tag.

Working with MEP filters in views within Revit

When you are working with multiple disciplines in one project, there are times you need to see only specific systems in a view even when they are made up of the same elements, such as ducts or pipes. To do this, you can use rule-based filters in views.

When you are working with multiple disciplines in one project, there are times you need to see only specific systems in a view even when they are made up of the same elements, such as ducts or pipes. To do this, you can use rule-based filters in views.

This module takes approximately 20 minutes to complete. By the end of the module, you should be able to:

  • Apply filters to views
  • Use filters to modify the display of elements
  • Create filters for MEP systems in a project

Before you start

  • Please make sure you have the Revit software loaded.
  • If you have technical difficulties, please reach out to product support

Creating custom MEP system types for Revit

MEP Systems create relationships between mechanical equipment and elements such as air terminals or plumbing fixtures. Several standard systems come with Autodesk Revit but sometimes you need to create your own custom system.

Applying MEP view overrides in linked Revit files

Linked models provided by architects often contain much more information than is needed to show the MEP design. You can override the visibility graphics of linked files by changing the visibility and modifying the display settings of Revit Links.

Working with MEP view templates in Revit

View templates can make standardizing content much easier. See how this is done by creating and modifying a 3D HVAC view template.
